On 26.11.2024. Tvornica turbina d.o.o. (TTK) with its consortium partner KONČAR – Elektroindustrija d.d. has successfully handed over the project “Reconstruction of the Dolac pumping station” for the customer Vodovod d.o.o. from Zadar.
The ”Dolac” pumping station is located in Zadar’s water supply system, which is the largest system in the Zadar County, and is crucial for the supply of drinking water in the area for three cities (Zadar, Obrovac and Nin) and 17 municipalities. The ”Dolac” pumping station was put into operation in 1981 as the main pumping station in the region of northern Dalmatia. Originally, pumps of smaller capacity were installed, which were manufactured by Jugoturbina of which TTK is today legal successor, thus continuing the tradition of design and manufacturing large pumps in Karlovac.
The scope of the project included significant work in the form of the delivery of 4 new pump units with higher operating parameters with complete new fittings, electrical work on the reconstruction of the complete 35kV and 6kV switchgear, and minor civil construction work.
TTK as the main partner for mechanical engineering of the project, has performed in the period from the signing of the contract on 25.11.2022. till the day of handover, demanding tasks consisting of:
- Model testing of influence by operation of larger pumps on existing pumping station geometry
- Design engineering, manufacturing, functional testing, installation and commissioning of new pumps based on initial concept and results of model analysis, as follows:
- three (3) with operating parameters Q= 480 l/s, H= 200 m, Pm= 1400 kW
- one (1) with operating parameters Q= 210 l/s, H= 200 m, Pm= 630 kW
- Replacement of complete fittings and armature on inlet and outlet side of pumping station
- Replacement, overhaul and / or modernization of all other mechanical auxiliary systems in pump station
TTK has won this project on public tender as the most favorable and only Croatian pump manufacturer among foreign competitors, but the project was contracted in unfavorable circumstances of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which brought various difficulties to the market. Furthermore, all works on the pumping station were carried out in such a way that the water supply from the Dolac pumping station was not at any time jeopardized.
Despite many logistical and technical problems, the pumps were manufactured and their performance was fully tested at the test station to prove compliance with the customer’s strict requirements.
First two pumps in pool A were put into operation in May, while remaining two in pool B in October 2024.
With the finalization of this project, Tvornica turbina d.o.o. has once again ranked among the cream of the crop among manufacturers of pumps according to the customer’s special request and has proven its high professionalism in managing and implementing strategic projects in the mechanical engineering sector.
